“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.” Revelation 3:20 (ESV)
Does anyone know what social graces are? Here are two short definitions: 1. A skill for dealing with people and society. 2. The ability to fit into polite society and behave appropriately and with etiquette. In other words, the person would be a true Gentleman or True Lady. Now here is the question, do you have social graces? Do you think Jesus has social graces? Let us explore this. Revelation 3:20 (ESV) says Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. Right there we can see from the very first part of the text, that Jesus practices social graces. What is He doing? He is knocking. There is a very famous painting by Holman Hunt of Jesus standing at the door and knocking. So, if He is knocking, where is He? He is outside! He is not inside with you! I don’t know how long you may have had Him out there in rain, sun, snow, but he is there waiting patiently, knocking waiting for you to open the door.
Jesus is a true Gentleman; He is not there breaking down the door even though He has all the authority and power in the World, He will never force His way into your heart, home or life without you opening the door. What I love about Jesus is that when we open the door, He is going to come and eat with us. One of the best ways to get to know someone is by eating and hanging out with them. That’s what Jesus wants to do; He wants to be a part of your life and help change and transform you into a better version of you and prepare you to live with Him forever. He is knocking right now, but the thing is He won’t knock forever, He wants to come inside. The question is, are you hearing Him knock at your heart, and will you answer and let Him in today? I hope you do.
Prayer: Help us Lord, to hear and answer the door today, to invite you into our lives to bring joy, happiness, peace, love and hope! Help us to answer the door before it’s too late in Jesus name. Amen.
