The Cayman Islands Conference of Seventh-day Adventists mourns the loss of a beloved spiritual leader and community builder, Pastor Wesley David Nyack, who passed away in August 2023. A retired Pastor with a profound impact on the lives of countless individuals, Pastor Nyack’s legacy of faith, dedication, and service will be remembered for generations to come.
Pastor Nyack’s remarkable journey in the Cayman Islands began in 1989, where he devoted his life to serving the community. Throughout his career serving in Cayman, he oversaw 11 churches, including George Town, Bodden Town, Maranatha, Ephesus, East End, North Side, Newlands, Cayman Brac, Berea, Bethel, and Bethany. His leadership extended beyond the local level, as he actively participated in committees for the West Indies Union (Jamaica Union) in Jamaica and the Atlantic Caribbean Union in the Bahamas. Locally, he held several conference offices: Church Ministries, Family Life, Welfare Ministry, Sabbath School, and Personal Ministries.
One of Pastor Nyack’s most notable achievements was the construction of the Bodden Town Youth Hall, a testament to his unwavering faith and community collaboration. With just $5,000 and a vision, Pastor Nyack led dedicated church members and skilled community volunteers to complete the project, providing a space for youth activities and Sabbath School classrooms. His commitment to community engagement was further demonstrated during his time in Cayman Brac, where he fostered genuine relationships with various denominations, leading to impactful initiatives such as the island-wide health fair and the Roca camp.
Pastor Nyack’s impact extended far beyond his congregation’s walls throughout his ministry. He embarked on international journeys alongside his family, preaching the gospel and sharing his unwavering faith with diverse audiences. In collaboration with his wife and sons, he conducted seminars and witnessed hundreds of baptisms, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those he touched.
Pastor Nyack’s enduring legacy lies in his profound love for the Lord, his commitment to spreading the message of salvation, and his embodiment of faith in every endeavour. His life is a shining example of a well-lived journey filled with love, generosity, and an unshakeable belief in the power of faith. As the Cayman Islands Conference bids farewell to a beloved leader, they remember the life of Pastor Wesley David Nyack, a cherished soldier of Christ who leaves behind an inspiring legacy of devotion and service.
