Newlands Church Hosts Inspirational Children’s Musical Festival

On December 9th, 2023, the Newlands Seventh-day Adventist Church hosted a Children’s Musical Festival themed “Vessels of Honour: Parading Our Talents for Jesus.” Organized by Sister Sonia McLaughlin, leader of the Children’s Ministry, the event brought together various local churches, including the participation of Sister Melissa Smith, Children’s Ministries Director for the Cayman Islands Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.

The church was adorned with a stunning white backdrop featuring musical symbols and the event’s theme, complemented by flickering lights that captivated attendees. The Sabbath School Program, overseen by Sister Chung, commenced at 9:15 a.m., featuring a lively song service led by the youth and musical renditions from three local churches. Cayman Academy contributed a musical item, accompanied by special readings emphasizing “How to use your talent for God.” Sister Chung skillfully led the Lesson Study.
At 11:00 a.m., the Divine Service began, marked by the entrance of the children’s choir in their gowns. Sister Melissa Smith delivered the children’s story, and churches, along with Cayman Academy, presented spirit-filled musical performances. Pastor John Wesley, pastor of the Newlands Church, dedicated the children/youth choir and teachers’ gowns, followed by a meditative song titled “Vessels of Honour: Empty and Broken.”

Sister Sonia McLaughlin delivered a heartfelt message urging both age groups (children and youth) to “Be a Vessel of Honor God Can Use.” The “Williams Quintet” performed a song, and an appeal was made for the congregation to recommit their vessels to the Lord.
Post-worship, the Newland’s Children’s Ministry Department provided lunches for all attendees, and a Bible class ensued. Vibrant discussions transitioned into the Adventist Youth (AY) evening program, showcasing the active involvement of children. In summary, the day was marked by spiritual fulfilment, culminating in a joyous time in Zion.
The Newlands Seventh-day Adventist Church expresses gratitude for Sister Sonia McLaughlin’s leadership, lauding her as a skilled and dedicated team leader who motivates children, youth, and assistants to use their talents as vessels of God amid challenging times.
