More than 200 residents and visitors gathered for a movie night hosted on the historic lawns of Pedro St. James on March 30, 2025. The event, organized by the Cayman Islands Conference of Seventh-day Adventists Communication Department and the Cayman Islands National Attractions Authority, brought together families, couples and friends for an evening of shared laughter and inspiration.
Guests arrived with folding chairs and blankets, settling into the grass beneath the night sky as the scent of popcorn mingled with the distant sound of waves. Children’s laughter echoed throughout the venue as attendees enjoyed two locally produced music videos followed by the feature film The Hopeful, a historical drama by Hope Studios.
“Our aim was to bring the community together for a cosy time in front of the big screen as well as raising awareness about the Seventh-day Adventist Church and what we believe,” said Devarro Whittaker, communication director for the Cayman Islands Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.
“It was a fantastic event that brought our community together, and I am thrilled to invite everyone to consider Pedro St. James as the perfect venue for your next special occasion,” said Leanna Jarvis-Burton, marketing coordinator for the Cayman Islands National Attractions Authority.

The Hopeful tells the story of William Miller, a man whose spiritual awakening after the War of 1812 sets in motion a movement powered by faith, resilience and vision. The film chronicles the impact of Miller’s message on Ellen Harmon and a determined group that faced strong opposition to shape a new future.
For many, the event became more than just a night at the movies.
“The overall vibe of the movie night on the lawns was just lovely—so warm, welcoming, and easygoing,” said Allison, an attendee. “It honestly felt like a little escape from the usual routine. These are the kind of memories that really stick with you. I truly can’t wait for the next one!”
Organizers plan to build on the success of this community-centred initiative by hosting similar family-friendly events in the future.
