Most Prominent Pastor of the Year

Pastor Kevin Anthony Danvers from the Cayman Islands Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, which is part of the Atlantic Caribbean Union (ATCU) was awarded the most prominent pastor of the year at the recent pastor’s training at the Inter-American Division on Wednesday, October 23, 2019.  At this function, several pastors were also recognised with similar awards from their respective unions in the Inter-American Division.

Pastor Danvers graduated from Northern Caribbean University (NCU) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion and Theology in 2001 and a Master of Arts in New Testament Theology in 2014.  He entered the gospel ministry in his country, Jamaica, in 2002 and was ordained in 2008.  Pastor Danvers gave outstanding service to the Central Jamaica Conference of Seventh-day Adventists for 15 years.  Ten of those years he worked as a district pastor and subsequently served as ministerial secretary, membership retention coordinator, special assistant to the president in evangelism and as an executive secretary.

He received a call to work in the Cayman Islands Conference of Seventh-day Adventists in August 2017 and was assigned to the pastoral district of the Savannah and East End Seventh-day Adventist Churches.   Additionally, he serves as personal ministries director and prayer ministries coordinator.

In 2019, he organised his two churches in evangelism, membership retention, prayer ministries initiatives, visitation programmes, youth ministries programmes, community outreach programmes, church renovation and expansion, training and equipping of members and church elders.

In the same year, he also led out in training sessions of elders and church members conference-wide in the following areas:

  • The Art of Public Speaking
  • Knowing Your Audience
  • Utilising Commentaries in Sermons
  • How to Construct a sermon
  • How to Make an Effective Sermon Appeal
  • How to Conduct an Effective Bible Study
  • How to lead Persons into Accepting Christ
  • Visitation
  • Membership Retention
  • Pre-Evangelistic Campaign Preparation

During the first quarter of 2019, under the auspices of the Lord Transform Me initiative, he strategically organised a zonal evangelistic campaign with three churches that resulted in the baptism of 55 precious souls. By the end of the third quarter of 2019, his two churches had baptised a total of 88 persons.

Pastor Danvers presently hosts a noon-day prayer radio ministry on Praise 87.9 FM.   As a result of this ministry, six persons have been baptised. Through the aid of the Holy Spirit, his ministry has led over 1,500 persons into the kingdom of God through baptism.

He is joined in ministry with a dynamic, supportive wife, Sharon, who presently serves as principal of the George Town Primary School in George Town, Grand Cayman.  Their union has produced two beautiful children, Shaqueena who is 14 years old and Nathaniel who is five years old.

His greatest burden and desire is to see people accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior and the people of God’s church living in readiness for the second advent of Christ.
