Marriage Re-Commitment Retreat 2023

The serene shores of Cayman Brac served as the backdrop for a transformative experience as the Cayman Islands Conference of Seventh-day Adventists hosted the Marriage Re-Commitment Retreat 2023 from October 20 to 23. This retreat, attended by 25 couples from Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac, aimed to rekindle the flames of love and strengthen the bonds of marital relationships.

Cayman Brac, a beautiful island, played host to 25 devoted couples, offering them a peaceful and intimate setting to reconnect and recommit to their marriages. The theme, “Strengthening the Bonds of Marital Relationships,” was at the heart of this retreat, a testament to Pastor Caple Thompson (Family Life Director of the Cayman Islands Conference) and his team’s dedication to building stronger, more loving unions.

“I was very pleased with the quality of the program and the impact the presentations had on the couples. The couples left the weekend retreat expressing satisfaction and appreciation for what transpired,” —shared Pastor Caple Thompson.

Dr Anthony Gordon and Deloris Gordon, respected figures in counselling psychology and family relational health, graced the retreat as guest presenters. Dr Anthony L. Gordon, a PhD holder and retired Family Ministries & Counseling Services Director at the Central Jamaica Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, was joined by his wife, Mrs Deloris A. Gordon, a counselling psychologist and special educator. Together, they brought over 30 years of international experience in providing relational health services across the globe, from the Caribbean and the USA to Canada, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

On Sabbath, the retreat attendees from Grand Cayman, as well as the local church membership, gathered for worship at the Creek Seventh-day Adventist Church. The President of the Cayman Islands Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, Dr Ivor Harry, delivered a compelling message which spoke about love in unlikely places and explored the true essence of love.

Dr. Gordon’s unique presentation style incorporated object lessons and hymns composed with family life in mind. He introduced a captivating concept, KGB, which stood for “Kidnapper of Gentleman’s Body.” This acronym was used to describe the ideal way a wife should interact with her husband, emphasizing the importance of nurturing the marital relationship.

The retreat delved into various facets of marriage, including “Marital FBI’s” and “KGB’s,” aiming to decode the dynamics of intimate relationships. Other topics included discussions about intimacy, ‘Friday night in Eden, and the Battle of the Intelligences on Quality Family Life.’ These subjects offered couples valuable insights and tools to enhance their relationships.

The Marriage Re-Commitment Retreat 2023 on Cayman Brac left several attendees feeling rejuvenated, reconnected, and with strengthened marital bonds. The Cayman Islands Family Life Department would like to say a special thank you to all involved in the planning and execution. As well as thank you to all who were in attendance.
