Managing Family Challenges during COVID-19

The Family Ministries Department of the Cayman Islands Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, held a digital Seminar for Pastors, Family Life Directors of the local churches and their committees. The intent was to equip leaders with the basics in Mental Health, Anxiety and Depression, Domestic Violence and Child Abuse. Using locally based and overseas professional practitioners as presenters, participants, received a variety of information. Terry Delaney, Counselor and therapist, during his presentation on “Maintaining Mental Health,” reminded us that the brain is an organ, which makes it susceptible to disease. We then heard from Ricardo Selman, Family Life Ministries Director of the East Caribbean Conference, who articulated to participants how they can overcome anxiety and depression. Brenda Dawkins, a certified parent coach, informed participants of the predisposing factors of domestic violence and in the closing presentation Sophia Chandler-Alleyne, Child Psychologist at the Health Services Authority, outlined the signs of child abuse.
