“But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. (Romans 5:8 NLT)”
Clyde Thompson at 17 years old, was one of the youngest persons ever to be sentenced to death by electric chair in the late 1920s in Texas. He was guilty of murdering a father and son on a hunting trip that he and two other boys went on. Clyde was guilty, yet he was released. He didn’t deserve it, but he found Jesus on death row! He was baptized and surrendered his life to Jesus, only six days before his execution. Two days prior, they put it off as they had to wait for the trial of the 3rd boy in the case. The governor said that he couldn’t see justice in executing one person while two others were equally guilty.
After the stay of execution, Clyde had 90 days to live, and he was sure he was going to die. But six hours before his punishment, the warden came to inform Clyde his sentence was now life in prison. WOW… What a miracle!
You and I may not be murderers, liars or thieves, but we all are supposed to be on death row of because of sin. However, this powerful verse gives hope! But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. (Romans 5:8 NLT)
We are loved! Jesus died for us and still loves us even when we mess up! But He doesn’t want us to remain in our mess! He wants us to turn to Him and to get help to transform our lives just like Clyde Thompson. Jesus died to show us God’s amazing love, so will you choose Jesus today and be Free?
Prayer: Thank you God for your Son Jesus! He died the death I deserved. Thank you that I am now no longer on spiritual death row, but I am Free! Help us to accept your love and to share this love so others can be free too. Amen.
