“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Genesis 1:1(KJV)”
Have you ever wondered where God is? Or have you ever sat and wondered “what is God doing?” There are times when we think God doesn’t exist and this was the situation facing the American troops, in September 1814 at the Battle of Plattsburgh, where the Americans with 1500 regulars and 2500 militia gained a decisive victory over 14 thousand British soldiers. This battle brought into question the popular belief of the time known as deism. Deism is the belief that God created the earth and left everything to function on its own. So the Americans were convinced that divine providence granted them the victory over such a formidable foe.
When introducing God at the commencement of the history of salvation Moses wrote, in the beginning God created the heaven and the earth (Genesis 1:1); then he moved on to list the words of God and the acts of God. For the Americans, it took a decisive moment to see that God was real, present and involved in human lives. What will it take for you to realize that God is real, present and involved in your life? Is it going to be a war, a difficult financial situation or a life threatening ordeal? Don’t make that the case, acknowledge and realize that God is real, able and available.
Prayer: Lord, reveal yourself to me in a mighty way. Amen
