After a two-year hiatus, the Cayman Islands Conference of Seventh-Day Adventist (CIC) Youth Ministries Department Inter-Church Football League Tournament 2023 concluded in spectacular fashion, with Bodden Town Seventh-day Adventist Church emerging as the champions. The tournament brought together eight spirited teams from different churches, creating an electric atmosphere of sportsmanship and fellowship.
The 2023 tournament attracted fans and players from across the Cayman Islands, filling the stands with excitement and anticipation. It marked a triumphant return after the competition’s abrupt interruption in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The resumption of the league brought together a mix of church members and visitors who came to fellowship through friendly bouts on the field and to compete for the prestigious championship title.
The tournament kicked off on August 12th, with Saturday nights filled with captivating plays, close calls, adrenaline-pumping counter-attacks, and electrifying goals. Each team showcased their A-game, ensuring that fans were on the edge of their seats throughout the league.
As the tournament came to a thrilling conclusion on October 7th, the top-three winners emerged after intense matches. Solid Rock secured 3rd place in a fierce battle with Newlands. The most anticipated clash of the night saw Bodden Town go head-to-head with Ebenezer for the 1st and 2nd place. After an equally matched and nail-biting game ending in a 2-2 draw, Bodden Town secured their victory in a sudden-death penalty shootout, clinching the 1st place title, while Ebenezer settled for the runner-up position in 2nd place.
The Sports Ministries Department expressed their gratitude for the successful tournament and the chance to foster Christian fellowship through sports. They extended their appreciation to all the teams, players, referees, and officials who made the event a success. The fans, whose unwavering support and cheers echoed through the stands, were also acknowledged for their enthusiasm.
