EAST END, Cayman Islands — The Community Services Department of the Cayman Islands Conference of Seventh-day Adventists hosted a “Back to School Family Funday” at George Dixon’s Park on Sunday, August 18, 2025, to support families preparing for the new school year.
The event featured a school supplies giveaway that included Seventy-Two (72) backpacks, Forty (40) uniforms, pencils, cases, erasers and physical education drawstring bags.
A special School Uniforms Station, funded by the Cayman Islands Conference of Seventh-day Adventists (CIC), provided students with new school attire. CIC President Pastor Dr. Ivor Harry personally handed out bags and uniforms to students from Clifton Hunter High School, Prospect Primary School, East End Primary School, and Lighthouse School.
Also assisting with the distribution were Pastor Caple Thompson, pastor of the East End Seventh-day Adventist Church, and Elder Norman Battick, First Elder at the East End Church.
The event—organized by Angela Hall, Community Services Director of the CIC, and her team—also featured the distribution of 50 grocery bags, donated with assistance from Lasco Cayman, to families in the East End district. Children enjoyed a bouncing castle, and the East End Church offered free health screenings for parents and students, as well as a “Healthy Snacks” presentation by Nurse Annie Price.
Organizers added an educational twist by giving students the chance to answer questions about Cayman Islands history for additional prizes which were provided by New Growth Naturals, blending fun with learning.
“Our goal was to give families a stress-free day and equip students with what they need to succeed this school year,” said Angela Hall, Director of the Community Services Department. “We are grateful for the support of our volunteers and community partners that made this possible.”
Hall also shared, “As a community services worker, I am driven by the opportunity to make a tangible difference in people’s lives. Witnessing the positive impact on families and students reinforces my passion for this work and motivates me to continue serving our community. The gratitude expressed by parents highlights the significance of these kinds of initiatives and the importance of community support.”
