Adventist Health Ministries Hosts Mental Health Workshop

The Health Ministries Department of the Cayman Islands Conference of Seventh-day Adventists hosted a mental health workshop focused on building hope and healing relationships Sept. 7-13.

The “Destiny of Hope Workshop,” led by department director Sashoy Duncan, featured guest presenter Jaunell Latty Miller, a registered nurse and assistant professor at Northern Caribbean University’s Department of Nursing.

Miller, who holds a master’s degree in nursing education from Loma Linda University and is pursuing her PhD in nursing, addressed tools for enhancing relationships and coping with depression, anxiety, unforgiveness and low self-worth.

“Don’t beat yourself up about where you’ve been with your addictions. Own it and replace,” Miller told participants during her final presentation. “Not replace with addiction, replace with the Word, replace with other meaningful activities, but watch God take you on a healing journey and break cycles in your family.”

The workshop integrated Christian spiritual practices with mental health strategies, emphasizing wholistic healing approaches. Miller, a 24-year nursing veteran, specializes in wholistic health care and has presented extensively on wellness topics locally and internationally.

Participants responded positively to the program’s blend of practical tools and spiritual guidance. One attendee said the experience brought “joy and peace” each evening.

“I just want to say that I was tremendously blessed night after night, it brought joy and peace and I could tell the Holy Spirit was in this place night after night because I felt it,” the participant shared.

Miller’s approach focuses on helping participants discover meaning, healing and connection to their inherent worth through faith-based wellness strategies.

The workshop represents the Health Ministries Department’s ongoing commitment to addressing mental health needs within the Cayman Islands through faith-based wellness programs.

Miller encouraged participants to embrace healing journeys that combine biblical principles with meaningful activities, emphasizing personal ownership of struggles while accessing appropriate support systems.
