The Cayman Islands Government issued a Tropical Storm warning for the Cayman Islands Friday November 6th, immediately the, ADRA Cayman Hurricane Restoration Plan was activated. This Plan consists of a new organizational structure where the island is divided into geographical Zones managed by an Adventist Development and Relief Agency, (ADRA) Area Coordinator and supported by ADRA Zone Leaders who are assigned to various districts with our volunteers.
With the activation of the warning, ADRA Cayman Islands communicated with the Cayman Islands Hazard Management Team for readiness to assist before, during and after the storm Eta. ADRA Volunteers were notified that Hurricane Shelters will be open and our AREA Coordinators and Zone Leaders implemented our Restoration Plan and our volunteers reported to various Shelters to assist potential occupants who may require Sheltering. Approximately 30 ADRA Volunteers reported and assisted where possible in the following Shelters: East End Civic Center, North Side Civic Center, Bodden Town, Primary School, John Gray High School, Auston Rutty Cayman Brac and John Gray Memorial Church West Bay. Other volunteers were on standby incase other shelters were open and additional assistance was needed. We have attached some photos for your viewing.
I commend our dedicated team of leaders who continue to display care and compassion by providing unselfish service to humanity. ADRA Cayman is also working with ADRA Nicaragua and ADRA Honduras to assist in providing much needed help due the devastation that has occurred due to Hurricane Eta which has affected 1.7 million people.
