ADRA Cayman held a Disaster Preparedness Workshop for Volunteers and Church members on Thursday, May 20th, at the Georgetown Seventh-day Adventist church. The workshop was facilitated by Hazard Management presenters Simon Boxhall, Awareness and Communication Officer as well as Lennox Vernon Manager, Logistics and Telecommunications. The topics included hurricanes, earthquakes, personal planning and the hazards and risks associated with these disasters. This is one of ADRA’s ongoing training initiatives to prepare members and volunteers to manage themselves and others during and after a disaster. Another important aspect of our Training Initiatives is the annual Shelter Management Course that Hazard Management Cayman Islands delivers for ADRA Shelter Managers and other community volunteer groups. Whenever a hurricane or other disasters are imminent, ADRA Shelter Managers are called upon to manage shelters throughout the island. On Sunday, May 23rd, our Shelter Managers completed this course. ADRA Cayman Islands has over 250 registered volunteers with over 35 trained Shelter Managers.
ADRA Cayman Islands is also offering an online course from the Pan-American Health Organization. To find out more about this course, please visit our website https://adracayman.org .(Select the Education and Training link for further information.)
